Among the new releases we reviewed this month are some lesser-known compositions by big name composers. Holst's opera The Perfect Fool is very rarely heard, except for the ballet music, but Lyrita recently packaged up a 1967 radio broadcast of it, led by Sir Charles Grove. Dietrich Buxtehude is remembered primarily for his organ music, but revered early music specialist Ton Koopman (pictured above) brings his chamber music to light. Schubert's Eighth and Ninth symphonies are often performed, but his Fifth not so much. René Jacobs has paired it with the slightly better-known Fourth, the "Tragic" Symphony. Check out what else we discovered.
